Stephen’s dual roles of Director and Transport Team Leader at Chester are undergirded by his 36 years’ experience in Civil Infrastructure – giving him comprehensive knowledge and proven credibility in roading, rail and water infrastructure projects.

Having worked for large public-sector clients as well as major civil engineering consultancies in the UK and New Zealand, Stephen is no stranger to taking on and delivering big-scale projects. His previous roles include Principal Project Manager in the New Zealand Transport Agency, and 10 years as a leading Project Director at Beca.

It is not an overstatement to say that the projects Stephen has been involved with have dramatically and positively shaped Auckland’s infrastructure. He has been the Project Director for the NZTA’s additional Waitemata Harbour Crossing – set to be New Zealand’s largest capital infrastructure project. Additionally, he has led or had significant involvement in major infrastructure projects affecting iconic assets like the Auckland Central Motorway Junction, and Westminster Bridge, London.

Stephen operates with an ethos of respect for all. Along with his emphasis on excellent communication, this has helped him to collaborate with and lead others to produce great results.

Stephen’s passion for safety in the workplace has led him to win awards in Safety in Design in both the private and public sector. Outside of work, he enjoys playing golf, and spending time on his small lifestyle block in the north of Auckland.
